 ...perhaps its very address, on Kuniceva street, Lined with Mediterranean blooms, and fragrances, that walk you to your doorstep at the end of every pleasant evenings stroll ...and awaken you each morning , as you have long lost track of what you left behind.. 

Here the legend of Anica and Vlaho came to life, in 1728, when Anica's Uncle Andrija Valkovic ordered built the first level of this current home- In stone the kind Uncle had carved his public testimony of his forgiveness of his niece Anica, for her indiscretions, and any shame brought to the family name, by succumbing to the destined attraction that sparked that Spring between herself, and one of her uncle's contracted builders, Vlaho, sparking no doubt, the wrath and tongues of the city gossips.... The stone attests : " I, Andrija Valkovic , bequeath to my niece, and sister's daughter, Anica, all my worldly belongings, as if to my own daughter, for her care and respect towards myself in life, and that after my death, she mention my name from her heart and soul."   Further tracks of the fateful romance can be found in the Dubrovnik city archives, among the court records between July first, until December third, 1728, which note that although Vlaho had already been married, and Anica was still not of age, the clandestine affair was made public as the two were caught escaping secretly together. Witness statements weave together the tapestry of a forbidden love, the drama of its day, the passion, and a postcard of a forbidden love, finally facing the cold dawn... In answer to the presiding judge, on which sin it was they had committed, Anica responded " We sinned both in word , and deed.. When we spoke, I would call Vlaho 'my beloved', and he would call to me in the same manner.."  The court documents show that Anica was released from jail on July 3rd, 1728.  In the same year, her loving Uncle Andrija Valkovic built the home on Kunicevoj Street, and erected the stone which bares his dedication to his niece, Anica.
